Re: Music Music Music

Listening to Thomas Dolby then moved me onto Malcolm McLaren's "Duck Rock", a mix of world and hip hop sounds from 1983, and the song "Double Dutch" which sounded great, but in a tale that's old as time was stolen from an African artist. So that got me into Lulu Masilela and the ...

Math aka Fun Equations

My daughter is learning multiplication and is learning a bunch of strategies, some of which I've never known. So I think my brain was already in this mode when I came up with a fun equation, dunno if this is common sense or well known, but it's fun. n*n - y*y = (n+y)*(n-y) aka 6*6 -1 = 7*5 100*100 -...

Re: Movie Review Thread

I hear ya, because it literally took me eight years to find a time to watch movies again. Moonlight An exceptional work. Lived up to the monumental hype. Beautiful and honest. Awesome. Moving. They play a tackle game near the beginning, that really gets at everything, especially as they do not name ...

Re: Movie Review Thread

The Grand Budapest Hotel Critics went to see this, expecting just another Wes Anderson film, only to come out saying "hey, it's the best just another Wes Anderson film ever!" Now, years later, I finally sit down and watch, kinda expecting the best Wes Anderson film ever, and it might just...

Re: On Time Invisibles 1021

Sometimes, looking at these, I wonder about the person (or people) who make them. Not only the work involved -- excellent photoshopping and an impressive understanding of fabrics -- but their film interests and biases (rare to see a movie from the first 80 years of filmmaking), and other interests a...

Re: Movie Review Thread

52 By Women 2020 #76: The One and Only Ivan Before I get into the film, want to give some props to the [sometimes-evil] empire Disney for their current and future spate of films directed by women. Though most of past and future stories are female-led, it's a very good sign that they also include wo...

Most Most Recent Previous Governing Powers (Done)

What countries, new and old, are listed the most as the most recent previous governing power over a country? This includes occupiers as well as countries that were split into smaller countries. Example: The Dominican Republic has been occupied by multiple governments, but was last governed by Haiti....

Re: Music Music Music

Listened to a few Eddie Van Halen collabs, some are good, some not so much. It's a hard line to tow between being being your own sound and blending in a rock god who has a very particular sound and vibe. Either he's front and center or he's barely in the mix. Obviously Quincy Jones and Michael knew ...

Re: I voted

Didn't think about the worry of quarantining on election day, good point, so now I've made note of NY's earliest early voting day (Oct 24) and hope to go in the first few days, preferably in the morning. Now that I think about it, every errand in this era is "preferably in the morning," us...

I'm almost wondering if this is the Art of the Deal in action, and he's expecting that when they see how serious he is Dems will cave. Then he can tell the people bow amazing he is at negotiating and how Pelosi and Shumer begged him for a deal. Or maybe he's hopped up on steroids and painkillers. I...

Re: Trump

I think quite clearly right now, even though it wasn't made official, Pence is running the government. That's how stupid this is, there's a law for this, meant for this exact moment, it's completely legal and temporary, and the president and his team are too scared to use it because he'll look weak....

Re: Trump

Trump admits giving a too rosy outlook on how covid will affect America.

Trumps' doctors have admitted to giving a too rosy picture of Trump's covid complications.

But they say now says their current rosy picture is true.

Dunno if it's true, but sure this is an abusive relationship.
