Re: What are you watching?
Legion season 2 really makes me wonder how psychedelic the show is going to get before the screen just flat out hands me some LSD. I'm kind of disappointed that season 3 is going to be the last, but that also means that they are going to resolve the thing. This concept is one that really shouldn't b...

Re: The Orville
Bortus is probably my favorite source of stories now. He can be silly mustachio, and then stuff like Deflectors happens. There was a weird moment where I thought the main plot was giving me a hint about the Ed and Kelly subplot, but I was wrong. That ending, though.
Re: Trump
Over the last couple of years I've seen a narrative among some conservatives that the President's more extreme positions and ridiculous statements are there to pull attention and make room for more rational conservative policies to be pushed forward. That he serves a purpose in drawing fire from the...

Re: NPR Fitness Group
Had some fitness goals, now I live in a hospital and don't work out. On the plus side the food I get in the shops downstairs is generally healthier than what I've been eating at home. I've even tried that Kombucha thing people go on about. Funny thing: You can buy soda in the hospital. All the fount...

Re: What are you watching?
Robotech was the most bonding thing I did with one of my brothers. He would wake me up every Saturday morning to watch it. I vaguely remember Starblazers being a thing back when I still heard it called Japanimation. Honestly, Robotech is a bit hard to watch now. There are things that bother me as an...

Re: What are you watching?
That's actually from the show's creator. It was intentional. The first few seasons even had various "villains" who were trying to outwit or control House in different ways, like a hard-nosed hospital administrator who had the audacity of trying to force House to conform to policies like we...

Re: What are you watching?
They just moved Sherlock Holmes into a hospital and built off the structures of Doyle's stories. (House=Holmes, Wilson=Watson). Other than the medical practice and the limp, it's straight Sherlock. Drug abuse? Check Belittles everyone around him? Check. Superiority complex? Check Train wreck of a hu...

Re: Unbreakable
Real talk, my daughter is at Johns Hopkins with C Diff. The staff has been amazing, and I've been couch surfing the entire time trying to help while staying out of the professionals' way. This is pretty nasty, but there's a minor blessing in that my lack of job plus us being able to survive on my mi...

Re: What are you watching?
I liked House, but misanthropic genius was a sub genre I was into for a bit.* Standard mystery show with misanthropic medicine as the gimmick and some strong performances about a horrible person and his support network of enablers working for "the greater good". It's crap from a medical po...

Yeah, he really found a good niche at the time. Are you going to watch Glass? I think I will as soon as I can get away from this hospital, but it's getting mixed reviews.

Re: Movie Review Thread
Just saw Trainspotting 2. I actually thought it was a good revisit to those characters. They all played pretty true to the original story. I watched a review after I saw the movie, and they said something I agreed with, so I'll rip it off here. It's about revisiting the glory days without just being...

I was just thinking about that episode. Bortus is really getting some mileage this season.

Re: What are you watching?
Orville rides a very specific locus of crude humor, scifi whimsy/exploration, and a down to earth sense of humanity (highs and lows). It's got flaws, but I find them endearing. For now. I mean, they took a pretty throwaway gag from the first season about Moclans only peeing once a year, realized tha...

Re: Movie Review Thread
The hero's journey is just a form of basic story structure. Almost every movie worth watching follows this the same way they use three acts.

Re: Movie Review Thread
Yes, he is definitely Thor-like, but I'm down with it. Actually, there are some pretty stark differences in the characters. For one, their character growth arcs are going in opposite directions. Thor was born and raised as a prince and his journey was about responsibility through humility (Ragnarok ...

Re: Movie Review Thread
I never read the comics, so for all I know this is just canon that I've been unaware of, but the undersea realm has internal politics with factions, and an implied size that makes it impossible for them to have remained hidden this long. But that is a nitpick that does not hurt the movie. They actua...
