Re: What are you watching?
The Wire's finished. It couldn't have happened soon enough. Season 5 was a freaking mess. At least it ended with Lester and Mcnulty being nowhere near a badge forevermore. Great show overall, but that last season just needed to not happen at all. Been a while since I watched, is Season 5 when McNul...
Re: Trump
The obvious issue with trying to paint a president as a failure if the stock market is going poorly is you have to begrudgingly admit the opposite if its doing fantastic. You also have to ignore the various whims that otherwise drive the market. The normal dip after a new administration is elected,...

Re: Movie Review Thread
Just saw Aquaman. I think WB learned their lessons pretty well. It's fun, it's colorful (and a lot more hopeful than all of the DCEU movies except maybe Wonder Woman. Unlike WW, the themes of the movie aren't really undercut by the finale. The villain motivation is clear and has internal logic. Momo...
Re: Trump
IF the legal news for Trump keeps getting worse... very real scenario: Trump runs in 2020 and is defeated. As a lame duck, he pardons all of his family and close associates and resigns. His vice-president steps up and then pardons Trump. Trump goes on to keep making money and going on TV and being ...

The Rookie. Nathan Fillion plays a man in his 40s who uproots his whole life as a contractor in PA to become a police officer in Los Angeles after his divorce. His Chief doesn't like him because serve and protect doesn't include supporting a mid-life crisis. The supporting cast is strong and it's Fi...
Re: Squatting
After seeing Pakistanis doing the really deep squat-sit, I've tried doing that from time to time. It's kind of restful, and definitely stable. Balls of my feet feels more like I'm working though, and I have a weird tightness in one of feet that I like to stretch out, so I end up with that more often.

Re: Movie Review Thread
Mortal Engines: Dumb. So dumb. At least 5 or 6 times in this movie, characters do stuff that is suspension-breakingly stupid for almost no point. The villain does dumb things just to be more evil, the heroes do dumb things just to move plot. There's also the economically rational butt-kissing Hollyw...

Re: Listener Betrayal 252!
Do you have an actual schedule for these? I feel like I'm always surprised by the notifications.
Last Jedi is very flawed. But it's not really THAT bad. Take out Canto Bight and stop having characters pass around the Idiot Stick and it's very watchable.

Re: Listener Betrayal 250!
Oh, and cross-reference to the FB question, I don't think I've been "disturbed" enough to not sleep. The last book that kept me up was literally Insomnia by Stephen King. There's a point in the last third with a two sentence reference to the Dark Tower and I remember making the decision ri...

What do I have to say for myself? "You alright, I learned it from watching you!"
Just made the the gluten free pasta from the instant pot thread.
Now that Netflix is cancelling all of their Marvel shows, do you think Disney's streaming service will put out anything as dark?

Re: Trump
Fair point on the fire locations. The misstatement was more about "raking the floor", which is what a lot of the people I'm seeing have locked onto. Do we currently have evidence that FEMA is working against Trump's orders? Is it the system working despite him, or is he doing the normal th...
Re: Trump
The twitter pics of Finns raking their forests are really good. You get to this point though... I need to know why people are cool with this. People are dying. And some of us are just so very cool with an idiot making idiotic comments about it, when he's uniquely able to mobilize resources to help,...

Re: NPR Fitness Group
Restarted my gym membership, but haven't made it in yet. My excuse is that we have three drivers juggling 2 vehicles, but in reality the 15-20 pounds I've gained since retiring have pushed me from mild embarrassment to moderate shame. I know that once I make it through the doors it will stop feeling...

Re: Movie Review Thread
Saw Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Christopher Robin recently. I thought Rhapsody was a pretty human take on a legend. He doesn't come off as completely noble, and there are some pronounced moments of hypocrisy or fickleness that I thiink would be spoilers to talk about. I liked it, and I left the th...

Not that much, but I find I'm loosening up around my kids as they get older. Now that they youngest is in high school, it's kind of off to the races compared to before.

Re: I think I have a crush on Santa
, I think there's some competition. Bruce Campbell played Jolly Old on an episode of the Librarians. Brian Blessed also played Santa, but just as a voice. On the other hand, with Brian Blessed, isn't that enough?

Re: What was the first podcast you listened to and who was the podcaster? Show your work
I think it was Animalcast. Which means I blame you for the fact that I now have way more podcasts than I can ever get to in a week. Need to start culling. By the way, Business Wars is fascinating, they do dramatic re-enactments of major competitions. They just finished up a run on Southwest Airlines...
