Re: Guns

It's also almost like they are urban areas in close proximity to states/localities with far less strict gun laws, because our country is maniacally obsessed with guns, and it's pretty simple to cross state lines with them. That's certainly an issue. And it seems your proposed solution is to expand ...

Re: Guns

How could it possibly have failed in this case when its goal wasn't really to stop people from committing a mass shooting? Never mind any metrics they might have about how many people got back on track and graduated, or got a job, or stayed out of jail, or otherwise managed to become productive and...

Re: Guns

I believe those are examples of places with strict gun laws. While it is possible that the laws are failing due to wording or enforcement, the fact that these areas with heavy gun control have huge problems with gun violence is a point against the concept. At best it's insufficient, and some argue t...

Re: Giving up as we get older.

The other part is I've heard a lot of the arguments before and I'm fairly confident in my beliefs (Not confident that I'm RIGHT, just that they fit my current situation) . Unless someone brings some new evidence or a novel way of looking at something to the table, I'm not really interested in debat...

Re: Putting an animal down.

So let's say you have a pet and you can afford basic upkeep for it... food, preventative care, the occasional doctor visit for minor issues, but there is an unexpected medical issue that costs more than you can afford. Not a lot more, but let's say it requires a $400 surgery and you don't have $400...

Re: Putting an animal down.

I have in-laws who live on a farm. They have farm cats. Well, honestly they "have" the cats in the sense that the cats live on the property. They have provided a shelter, but the cats are not allowed in the house, and they provide no food or medicine at all for them. While we were visiting...

Re: Giving up as we get older.

I was actually thinking about this a bit ago. Replied to a Facebook comment, got what I felt were some unfair things said, but by tSoche time I saw the replies, I had to go to work where I can't be on FB. By the time I could respond, enough time had passed that I couldn't justify jumping back in. So...

Re: Kyle's Instant Pot Adventures

I made a simple gluten-free penne pasta and marinara recipe I found online ([url=https://www.skiptomylou.org/gluten-free-pressure-cooker-pasta-with-meat-sauce/]link[/url). I sauteed onions and garlic and then, instead of ground beef, I browned some italian-seasoned ground turkey. I threw that into ...

Re: Guns

Now that I'm laying down in a quiet place, let me take a small crack at this though I don't have high hopes. There is a body of people, and I don't know whether they agree with your views or not, who are very keen to blame the Parkland shooting on Obama, on the black school superintendent who gover...

Re: Movie Review Thread

Saw A Quiet Place and Rampage this weekend. A Quiet place was as good as people say. I spotted a couple of plot holes or unexplained worldbuilding, but I was still in it the whole way. Almost had the theater to myself though. Rampage...I was more finding something to do so I would be awake long enou...

Re: What are you watching?

I liked the first couple of seasons of SOA. I dig antiheroes, it had a Hamlet-like set up of secrets and betrayals and I thought it had some good moments where the Bad Thing was the Necessary Thing, and that's pretty compelling. But yeah, the Edgelord factor took over pretty quick. It did really hel...

ANNIHILATION If you like weird-as-hell, unique sci-fi, check this out on the big screen if you get the opportunity. Some striking images I won't get out of my head for awhile. Such a UNNERVING film, easily the first ***** film I've seen this year(well maybe also Den of Thieves) and yea, just great ...

I think the food box is a really good idea. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/12/food-stamps-trump-administration-343245 I personally know two people that will be oh shit how can I turn a box of food into my fix. The food box idea is dumb on a lot of levels. If you hate centrally planned econo...

Re: TV Shows

Isaac and Ishmael was a great episode. I didn't mind that they weren't incorporating 9/11 into the show, since they had done all the planning beforehand, and quite frankly it took us a few years to really process and understand what happened. They couldn't have realistically kept up with the fallout...
