Re: Guns

Fair enough. It just irks me. Almost every popular civilian firearm throughout history has been based on a military firearm. I think that's because, militarily speaking, guns are used to kill, and do so effectively. About the only time this wasn't true was when muskets lacked rifling. Rifles were ty...

Re: Guns

Alo, if you look at the FBI's reports on active shooter incidents in the US, you'll find that the "military style rifle" isn't the "weapon of choice for mass shooters". The most common weapon is the handgun. Which, when you think about, makes sense. Handguns are easily concealabl...

Re: Guns

But it IS meaningless. Or rather, it's just a set of arbitrary features that don't change the core function of the weapon. It'd be like saying a Hummer is an "urban assault vehicle" because it has a large cowcatcher grill, is all black, has tinted windows and run flat tires. It's lacking t...

Re: How racist are you?

Not too racist. Can't be racist against imaginary races, after all. Edit: I'd say somewhee around a 2-3. I occasionally say some shit I shouldn't say in private company, but generally speaking, I don't think I'm racist. unless we're considering "white" to be a race, in which case: fuck tho...

Re: Guns

Lol. "military style" What is that, even? In New Zealand, the 2013 version of the Arms Code describes a military style semi-automatic firearm as any "self-loading" (i.e. semi-automatic) firearm, other than a pistol, with any of the following features: *Folding or telescopic butt...

Obama actually expanded some gun rights, amusingly enough.

Re: Guns

I mean, I imagine it's just no point in talking about it. It's stupid, but the majority of our gun laws seem to be along this line.

Re: Squatting

I keep my heels on the floor. Toes should be able to freely move, having no weight on them. Keep the knees about shoulder length apart, and make sure my knees don't go further than my toes. And then I try to get as low as I can. That's when I'm "exercising" squatting. At work, I'm often ha...

Re: Guns

It's fair enough. I was tired and didn't really explain myself. Ok, lemme try this again: since I am generally ok with things such as background checks, red flag laws, and, gun licensing, a lot of these "restrictive" states already have such laws in place, and it may seem to ya'll that I'm...

Re: Guns

Shouldn't we be checking for the efficacy of particular gun law? I'm just spitballing here, bu it seems likely that some gun laws such as red flag law, background checks, etc, might have impacts on suicides that make sense, while other gun laws, such as "assault weapons bans" would have le...

Re: Guns

Nobody is interested in real science or real answers, Mike. Real Science and Real Answers are going to tell us things that we don't like. And we don't want to look at those things, so we're gonna pretend there isn't any real science(there is and are studies on this, the "ban on gun science"...

Re: Guns

Indeed, population probably is a factor. But you can't ban population density. You can't turn it into a 3 day media extravaganza employeeing all sorts of pundits, allowing your favorite celebrity to pop in and fire their non sequiters, and it requires you to look at the question differently. It's no...

Re: Guns

Seem weird though that a state with a large population, but restrictive gun laws, would have more mass shootings than a state with a large population, and by comparison permissive gunlaws.

It's almost as if something other than the gun laws is at work.

Re: Guns

But no one suggest that doctors or academics who call for gun control are biased, right? Because, clearly, the only bias can happen in stupid conservatives, while clever liberals are too intelligent and intellectual to have cognitive biases. Also, ain't it weird how California keeps having these mas...
