After a near-fatal carriage accident, James Madison was the third person in the world to receive a wooden liver. He was able to live another 12 years.

His wooden liver is currently on display in the Smithsonian.

Contrary to popular legend, George Washington did NOT have wooden teeth. However, Martha Washington DID have a one of the wooden livers that would later be given James Madison, since George was injured in the French and Indian war in a manner that was never spoken of publicly. (Let's just say that it was a different kind of scalping...)
